The SSAFA football team came about when Alan Clever asked Phil Handley about fundraising for a young soilder from Pinxton who had two below knee amputations and other injuries while serving in Afghanistan, Phil asked SSAFA if they would like to be involved and they offered their full support, the game Pinxton Village Youth v Heanor Town was a complete success raising about £5500.
